What is CANapalooza?
CANapalooza is an exciting service opportunity during Homecoming to support the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The LSU and Baton Rouge community will come together to collect thousands of canned-goods which will be used to build a replica of Tiger Stadium and of Mike the Tiger’s Habitat on the Parade Ground. You can be a part of CANapalooza by donating canned-food, setting up your own canned-food drive, or helping build the structures. Tiger Stadium and Mike the Tiger’s Habitat will be on display Friday through game-day.

Ways for you to get involved:
1. Donate cans at one of the many drop-off locations around campus. (No registration necessary) Look for the large, white Food Bank barrels at the following locations from Monday October 22nd until Wednesday November 7th (Locations subject to change).
2. Register to set-up a canned-food drive at a location of your choice:
You can organize a canned-food drive for your organization at a location of your preference. You or another leader from your organization will attend one of the Can Captain Info Meetings on September 24th or 25th, in the Acadian or Feliciana Room of the Union (see location and times above). At this meeting, can captains will receive information on the proper way to conduct a CANapalooza can drive along with important information on hunger in the Baton Rouge community. Your canned-food drive can begin on October 8th.
On October 22nd, the LSU student Homecoming Committee will open two PODs for can drop-off. There will be a POD by the Union and by the UREC. You will be able to drop your cans off at this secure location from October 22nd until the build begins on November 7th. Please use the attached form to give us information on your food drive. To minimize cost and maximize locations, we ask that you be responsible for any materials needed to collect cans and transport them to the PODs.
3. Register your organization to participate in the CANapalooza build the week of Homecoming: Any LSU student, faculty, staff, organization, or Baton Rouge community member can register to participate in the building of Tiger Stadium and Mike the Tiger’s Habitat. You will be assigned a night and time to build on the Parade Ground between 4- 7 pm on Wednesday, November 7th, Thursday, November 8th, and/or Friday, November 9th. You may request a particular night on the attached registration sheet, but slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The structure has been designed by a local architect and/or engineer for proper design and safety standards. Staff members and Homecoming Student Committee members will be on hand to oversee the construction of the structure and ensure safety of all volunteers. In order to help with this process we ask the following of all volunteers:
• Upon arrival, please check-in with a Homecoming staff member at Parade Ground.
• Closed toe shoes must be worn at all times while building the structure.<
• Before adding cans to the structure, please receive instructions from the
Homecoming staff member on duty overseeing the site construction at that time.

Why should you participate?
Last year CANapalooza donated 26,000 cans to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. This year we would like to donate even more, providing even more food to those in need. The Food Bank has experienced large financial cutbacks making it difficult to supply enough food to people and families in need. (You can also help assist the Food Bank with monetary donations through https://secure.toolsfororgs.com/brfoodbank.org/donateonline.php. When you make your donation please make a note of Canapalooza in the comments section.)
We encourage you to share the spirit of LSU and its Commitment to Community by coming together as an LSU family to collect the most cans in our history. By participating in CANapalooza, you will learn about hunger in the Baton Rouge community, as well as learn about ways to take action against hunger. Join us in an effort to make a change in our community!
