Homecoming Court

The LSU 2012 Homecoming Court Committee is pleased to announce the LSU 2012 Homecoming Court.

Please join us as we introduce the Court at half-time on Saturday, November 10 at the LSU Football v. Mississippi State University game! The selected Queen and King will be announced following the Court's introduction.

Each Homecoming applicant was asked to answer three questions on their written application. To give more information about our Senior Court members for student voters of Homecoming Queen and King, we provided their answers, without edits, to the final question: “This year’s these is ‘Showing Your Stripes: Celebrating Traditions and Leaving Legacies.’ In what ways do you like to show your stripes as an LSU Tiger?”

As an LSU Tiger, I have many stripes. From running the Boston Marathon to running on LSU’s national championship Track and Field team, one stripe is my athleticism. Another stripe is my school pride, which I display as I help both prospective and incoming students get excited for LSU. I am a member of Honors College Advocates and Manship Ambassadsors, and I served for two years with STRIPES. My excellence in the classroom is a third stripe. Study abroad experiences in China and England contribute to the fourth and fifth stripe; and my mathematical research makes up the sixth. The list of stripes and their attributes goes on forever, but more importantly, how do I show these stripes? Aside from showing my stripes to the LSU internal community through campus involvement (STRIPES, Honors College Advocates, etc.), my favorite way of showing my stripes is community involvement. I am proud of and excited for what LSU has done for me and the stripes it has left me. So proud in fact, that I want to convey that to external publics by doing service, Serving the community is my way of saying, “Hey world, look what well-rounded students LSU produces! And look how these students want to help give back!”

As a member of two organizations that are focused around promoting LSU to prospective students (LSU Ambassadors and Honors College Advocates), I have been given the privilege to be the face of LSU to many upcoming students. I “show my stripes” not only by being knowledgeable so that I can answer any questions and assist the students in any way that I can, but by always possessing the enduring spirit of a true LSU Tiger and enthusiastically promoting what LSU has to offer while sharing my own personal experiences at this university. When I am at home in Lake Charles I am often around high school students due to my involvement in youth ministry, and I am constantly talking about LSU and the opportunities that these high school students will have here. My involvement in the Golden Band from Tiger Land has allowed me to be involved in one of the most recognized LSU traditions – marching down Victory Hill and performing the LSU pregame show. In all, I “show my stripes” by always striving to be the best LSU Tiger I can be through leadership, service and hard work.

While all tigers have their stripes, no one tiger has the same ones. This could not be more true of the students here at LSU. Each students has their own unique ability to contribute to the university, and I have enjoyed being able to contribute my stripes these past four years.
First I cherish family. While I separated from an identical twin sister coming into college, I have been able to form my own family here on campus through my involvement in my sorority, Chi Omega. I enjoy nothing more than to experience sporting events, panhellenic activities, and daily college life with my sisters in Chi Omega.
Second, I value my education. I have worked tirelessly to take advantage of the great learning environment LSU has to offer. The outcome of this hard work came this summer, as I was able to represent LSU as the first undergraduate from LSU to intern in J.P. Morgan’s oil and gas investment bank. I believe I left a positive impression about the quality of the education one can obtain as a student at LSU.
Last, I strive to give back. Whether through the honors college as a member of the Louisiana Service and Leadership program, through my study abroad experience as the first LSU student to be selected to attend the program, or through my experiences with international mission trips, I have prioritized my passion for learning and serving both inside and outside of the classroom. In every one of these opportunities, I have felt a responsibility to represent LSU and uphold the values I have learned as a student.

I sincerely hope that when I look back to my time spent on this campus, people will say that I was more than an LSU Ambassador, SG member, STRIPES participant or Orientation Leader- I hope they say that I was always friendly and never missed an LSU sporting event. I hope people know that I supported every diversity on campus and pushed not only myself, but others around me to do their best. I hope people know that each and every day I LOVE PURPLE by being passionate and driven, and that I LIVE GOLD by working to the best of my ability to leave LSU a better place than I found it.

As an LSU Tiger, I strive to show my stripes by maintaining high academic standards, actively participating and leading in student organizations, promoting the university and my senior college to prospective students, supporting student athletes by attending sporting events, mentoring and advising underclassmen students, serving students by sitting on committees appointed by administrators, and investing in personal value through honor societies. Once my journey is complete, I hope future student leaders show their stripes, celebrate campus traditions, and continue the legacy of past generations that I strive to uphold.

These past three years of my life have been perhaps the best that I will ever have, but my work is not done. There is a saying that I have heard many people say “Once a LSU tiger, always a LSU tiger”, and I’ve come to believe this saying. I want to show my stripes as an LSU Tiger throughout the entirety of my life but continuing to support, in all capacities, the LSU education, LSU athletics, and that contagious tiger spirit that is the cornerstone of this great school. I want to show my stripes my inspiring my fellow peer and the students yet to walk under there stately oaks to think more, do more, and become more while they are at LSU. I want to show my stripes by making a commitment to be a LSU tiger for life.
